Couples/Marriage and Family Psychologists and Counsellors are mental health professionals who base their practice on developing a deep rapport with couples and individuals in order to develop insightfulness, self-awareness and compassion for their complex feelings, emotions and individual stories. This helps enable individuals to make lasting, positive, healthy changes in their lives.

The three main areas couples can explore and resolve involving counselling are issues related to interpersonal, intrapsychic and/or personal nature.

Your couples/marriage psaychologist or counsellor require in-depth addtional training and education to utilise a variety of therapeutic interventions, modalities, and theoretical orientations to support couples in need of counselling.

On your appointment confirmation and appointment reminder emails - Can you please click on the Intake Form link and fill out this form online. This will save you time and allows your psychologist to spend more time with you. Appointments are 50 minutes in duration

required by law.

Medicare & Private Health Insurance Rebates

Counselling in Melbourne psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have Medicare provider numbers, enabling you to claim a Medicare rebate for your counselling session. By obtaining a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician referral in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan, you could be eligible to receive a rebate for up 6 to 10 individual counselling sessions per calendar year. Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions. To find out how to obtain a rebate download the Australian Psychological Society Ltd Medicare Fact Sheet. If you have extras cover you will be able to claim a rebate from your health fund provider. As the rebate varies depending on your level of cover please call your Health Provider for more information.
