Couples/Marriage and Family Psychologists and Counsellors are mental health professionals who base their practice on developing a deep rapport with couples and individuals in order to develop insightfulness, self-awareness and compassion for their complex feelings, emotions and individual stories. This helps enable individuals to make lasting, positive, healthy changes in their lives.

The three main areas couples can explore and resolve involving counselling are issues related to interpersonal, intrapsychic and/or personal nature.

Your couples/marriage psaychologist or counsellor require in-depth addtional training and education to utilise a variety of therapeutic interventions, modalities, and theoretical orientations to support couples in need of counselling.

Medicare rebate

There is no Medicare rebate available for couples therapy unless your GP has recommended and provided one person in the relationship with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). Please discuss directly with your practitioner.
