By changing your mindset, your physical, mental, and spiritual consciousness will automatically begin to improve.

Mental, physical, and spiritual health and your overall enjoyment of life are all deeply interconnected. Something as simple as a small worry or a low level of background anxiety can snowball if left unresolved, taking with it your ability to enjoy your day.

Emotions can and will “ebb and flow” and can quickly manifest leaving you feeling overwhelmed if left untreated, before you know it, you can no longer recognise your old self and are left experiencing a sense of emptiness you feel will never go away.

My goal is to be there when you want to reach out, step forward and change the way you approach your mental health. It’s about providing support, leaving judgements at the door, and inviting you to open up in a way you feel comfortable and confident that from day one I am going to be supportive, and I will be with you on your journey of rediscovery.

Simply by reading this you’re moving forward and proving to yourself you have it within you to take control and to get back to a richer path in life.

Let me guide you through how I can help if you are suffering from:

Melissa's areas of specialty

“What if…”, “if only I could…”, “when I am / when I have…, then I’ll be happy”. Do any of these types of phrases regularly plague your mind? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. These types of thoughts and associated feelings can feel overwhelming or even debilitating, and certainly, make you feel as though you are not at your best.

When you come to see me, you’ll find that in an easy-going and non-judgemental way, I will initially get to know a little about you and how you function in day-to-day life. We will mostly talk about the here and now, and maybe delve a little into how things have evolved for you to this point. I will enable you to enact change in your life by using predominantly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions, and by talking through the emotional impacts of how current circumstances are affecting you and possibly also the interactions with those around you.

The ability to adjust to change is something we can gain with experiences in our lives, the trade-off being that unfortunately these gains often follow a major stressor. Though we can feel deflated, dejected or even debilitated by such events, it can also be an opportunity to improve upon our ability to cope with the current and future life stressors.

When we meet, will talk about your history, important life events, emotions, behaviours and the stressful event or issue that brought you to seek psychological assistance and support. I will also add to your existing skill set by introducing novel strategies to improve stress management to achieve improvements in your day-to-day functioning. Utilising psychological interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness-based therapies, I hope to assist you to move through the crisis brought about by adverse circumstances in a paced, and non-judgemental environment.

I learned many years ago that a diagnosis of infertility can be as emotionally taxing as receiving a terminal illness diagnosis. This may sound strange to people that have not experienced fertility issues, but for those of you reading this and seeking support, you’ll know exactly what this means!

Finding the energy and determination from somewhere within to continue with the fertility process can be exhausting and overwhelming (to say the least!), however sharing your difficulties with someone who understands and has 10 years of professional experience talking to others like yourself, can be of great benefit to the coping process.

When you come to see me, I’ll get to know a little about your fertility journey and you can tell your story in a friendly and comforting environment. Together we will explore and utilise psychological strategies that will assist, but we will also use talk-therapies to delve into the delicate and cyclic balance between hope and grief that often accompanies individuals and couples experiencing infertility. My hope is that with my assistance and your perseverance, you will ultimately successfully start, expand, or complete your family unit.

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs one might ever do! As I always say, “it’s more difficult than it is easy, but it’s better than it is bad”. If this is not the case for you, let me assist you to move through this potentially difficult period in your life and gain skills and strategies to improve your parenting or pre-parenting experience. Together we will utilise predominantly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approaches, and adjunct therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based therapies to feel more confident and satisfied along your parenting journey.

And whether you’re preparing for or stumbling through, just remember, looking after yourself (e.g. receiving psychological support and assistance) is a great first step to ensuring you can look after others, including the small humans that crawl, scoot or run around your house.
